US firm wades into compatible cartridges row

SwapInk said it is no longer the case that people use cartridges from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM)

SwapInk said remanufactured and compatible toners are becoming more and more popular among consumers.

However, it said these consumers are being misled by dubious claims that such products aren't up to the job. "The myths are far from the truth as compatible toner cartridges seem to have quite the list of real advantages," the firm said.

It follows a claim by Brother that remanufactured cartridges are a 'false economy' (see our blog post for our thoughts on this).

SwapInk said it is no longer the case that people use cartridges from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

"They are choosing the more affordable and equally as reliable versions of them—compatible and refurbished toner refills," it claimed.

Compatible products are made to meet or better the quality of OEM consumables, SwapInk said.

"They are ultrasonically cleaned, electronically tested, refilled with the highest quality of ink, and finally print tested before packaged and sold."
