The project entitled Jump4London was the brainchild of Clare Newton, an artist from east London. Students from the University of East London (UEL) were amongst the first volunteers to be photographed mid-jump.
The photo was printed in 10 metre sections on an Agfa Anapurna M2050 machine and measured over a kilometre in length and consisted of 81,663 photos.
Before the completion of the project Ms Newton said “The idea of this project is to be all-inclusive. UEL has a wonderfully diverse student population and as a former student I thought it would be great place to start the project off. I’m really hoping that as many students and staff as possible can come down and share in the making of history. Friends, family and local community groups are welcome to come down, too.”
Her hopes were realised and the final product features 1,200 different people jumping.
